Best Gulf Street Food in Dubai: 15 Spots Ranked

Updated March 2026  ·  12 min read  ·  By the Where To Eat Dubai team

We've eaten at every shawarma counter, manakish bakery, luqaimat cart, karak chai shop, and falafel joint worth knowing in Dubai. These 15 spots represent the absolute best of Gulf street food in the city — ranked by authenticity, value, consistency, and the very important question: would we drive across town for this?

Our ranking methodology: minimum 3 visits per spot over at least 6 months. Price scores are based on value relative to what you're getting, not absolute cheapness. Authenticity scores reflect how closely the food matches what you'd eat in the origin country. The overall score is our gut feeling after all those visits. For most of these spots, the gut feeling is very, very good.

⭐⭐⭐ World-Class — Worth a Special Trip
Shawarma Al Hallab Al Karama Dubai
1
Shawarma Al Hallab
Al Karama · Chicken & Meat Shawarma · AED 7–14
Overall Score9.4/10
Dubai's most consistently excellent shawarma spot. The chicken is carved from a perfectly seasoned spit with almost surgical precision, wrapped into flatbread with their house garlic sauce that borders on illegal in its addictiveness, a proper chilli hit, and the crunch of pickled turnips. Open until 2am most nights. The queues at 11pm tell you everything you need to know.
Our #1 Pick Al Karama Open Late AED 7–14 Chicken Shawarma
Al Ustad Special Kebab Bur Dubai
2
Al Ustad Special Kebab
Bur Dubai · Kebabs & Mixed Grill · AED 15–45
Overall Score9.2/10
A Dubai institution operating since 1978. Al Ustad's charcoal-grilled kebabs are the benchmark against which every other Dubai kebab is measured. The chicken tikka is exceptional, the seekh kebabs are properly smoky, and the mixed grill is one of the best meals you can eat in Bur Dubai for under AED 40. The restaurant is no-frills but the food is anything but. Multiple branches but the Bur Dubai original is the one.
Est. 1978 Bur Dubai Charcoal Grill AED 15–45

3
Operation:Falafel
Multiple Locations · Falafel & Levantine Street Food · AED 20–55
Overall Score9.1/10
The polished modern take on Levantine street food done right. Operation:Falafel has elevated the falafel wrap into something you'd genuinely queue for — and people do. Their green herb falafel is crisp outside and yielding inside, their hummus is silky and properly lemony, and the wrap construction is a serious act of architectural talent. More expensive than a street corner but the quality justifies every dirham. DIFC and JBR branches both excellent.
Modern Classic Multiple Locations Falafel AED 20–55
Manakish Dubai bakery fresh from oven
Fresh manakish from a Dubai stone oven — za'atar and olive oil on pillowy flatbread, the iconic Gulf breakfast that costs less than AED 10
⭐⭐ Excellent — Highly Recommended
Chai Karak spiced tea Dubai
4
Chai Karak
JLT & Multiple Locations · Karak Chai & Snacks · AED 2–25
Overall Score8.9/10
The karak chain that got the formula exactly right — and then scaled it without losing the soul. The standard karak here is a benchmark version of the drink: cardamom-forward, condensed-milk-sweet, served in a small cup that forces you to order another immediately. Their manakish (cheese or za'atar) is consistently good. The JLT branch is the hub of the neighbourhood's working life. The fact that this much flavour costs AED 3 remains one of Dubai's great value miracles.
Best Karak Multiple Locations AED 2–25 Manakish
Luqaimat Dubai Creek stall
5
Luqaimat Dubai Creek Souq
Deira / Creek · Luqaimat & Emirati Sweets · AED 10–25
Overall Score8.8/10
The most atmospheric place in Dubai to eat luqaimat. The stall near the Creek souq area has been serving these perfect little fried dough balls — golden-crisp, impossibly light inside, drenched in date syrup and sesame — for years. The setting matters: you're near the water, the dhows are in the background, and you're eating one of the Gulf's most ancient sweets. The luqaimat themselves are exemplary. Order 12. You'll eat all of them.
Most Atmospheric Deira Creek Luqaimat AED 10–25
Al Safadi Lebanese grill Dubai Deira
6
Al Safadi
Deira & Multiple · Lebanese Grill & Street Food · AED 25–70
Overall Score8.7/10
Al Safadi sits in the middle ground between Lebanese restaurant and serious street food — and it occupies that space better than almost anyone in Dubai. The mixed grill platters are remarkable value, the hummus is properly made (not from a factory vat), and the fattoush arrives crisp and dressed correctly. The Deira branches operate late into the night and serve the kind of crowd that knows what good Levantine food actually tastes like. The shish tawook is outstanding.
Deira Lebanese Grill Open Late AED 25–70
Manakish bakery Bur Dubai
7
Saj Al Mreisah Manakish Bakery
Bur Dubai · Manakish & Flatbreads · AED 5–18
Overall Score8.6/10
The best dedicated manakish bakery in Bur Dubai. Everything here is made fresh — the dough is hand-stretched, the za'atar mix is proprietary and properly oily, and the stone oven produces a flatbread with the right char spots and pillowy interior. The cheese manakish (Akkawi cheese with a drizzle of nigella seeds) is the order. Come between 6–9am for peak freshness. The queue is worth it and moves fast.
Best Manakish Bur Dubai Early Morning AED 5–18
Allo Beirut restaurant Dubai JBR
8
Allo Beirut
JBR & Multiple · Lebanese Street Food · AED 30–80
Overall Score8.5/10
Allo Beirut has made a name for itself by taking Lebanese street food seriously and serving it in decent surroundings at fair prices. Their kafta wraps are excellent — properly spiced, properly char-grilled, properly wrapped. The fattoush is one of the best in Dubai: the bread stays crisp, the pomegranate molasses dressing is right, the vegetables are fresh. Good for groups who want Gulf street food flavours with a bit more comfort.
JBR Lebanese Good for Groups AED 30–80

Karama shawarma spot Dubai
9
Al Mallah
Al Satwa · Lebanese Street Food · AED 10–40
Overall Score8.4/10
The Al Satwa legend. Al Mallah has been feeding Dubai for decades from its cheerful streetside tables. The fresh juice is probably the best in the city. The shawarma is solid, the manakish reliable, and the mixed mezze platters (hummus, mutabbal, fattoush, pita) are the best casual spread in the area for the price. The pavement tables with their plastic chairs somehow feel more honest and pleasant than restaurants costing five times as much.
Institution Al Satwa Fresh Juice AED 10–40
Burns Coffee karak Dubai
10
Burns Coffee & Karak
Multiple Locations · Karak Chai & Breakfast · AED 3–30
Overall Score8.3/10
Burns has nailed the karak chai + breakfast format that Dubai's morning culture demands. The karak is consistently good across all branches — cardamom-heavy, properly sweet, correctly hot. Their eggs and manakish breakfast deals (AED 15–25) represent staggering value. The branches near office clusters in JLT, Business Bay, and Al Quoz are packed from 7–10am with precisely the professional crowd who knows what's good and cheap in their neighbourhood.
Multiple Locations Breakfast AED 3–30

Abu Dhabi Shawarma — Al Karama
Al Karama · Meat Shawarma · AED 8–15
Overall Score8.2/10
A confusingly named Al Karama institution that specialises in meat shawarma. If Shawarma Al Hallab is the chicken shawarma king, this spot is the meat shawarma contender. The lamb-and-beef spit is well-seasoned, the tahini sauce generous, and the wrap technique produces a satisfyingly tight cylinder of deliciousness. Open late, always consistent. The name is a mystery — nobody knows why it's called Abu Dhabi Shawarma in Dubai — but the food is firmly Dubai-excellent.
Al Karama Meat Shawarma Open Late AED 8–15
Luqaimat sweet stall Dubai heritage
12
Emirati Luqaimat Cart — Al Fahidi
Al Fahidi / Bur Dubai · Luqaimat & Emirati Sweets · AED 10–20
Overall Score8.1/10
Near the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, a small operation serves the most authentic luqaimat in Dubai — made with a traditional recipe using saffron in the batter, producing a golden hue that street-side competitors don't replicate. The date syrup is the real thing — thick, dark, from UAE dates — not a cheap substitute. The setting, with the wind towers visible in the background, makes this the most photogenic and culturally satisfying luqaimat experience in the city.
Most Authentic Al Fahidi Emirati Heritage AED 10–20
Zaroob Lebanese restaurant Dubai
13
Zaroob
Jumeirah, DIFC & Multiple · Lebanese Street Food · AED 30–80
Overall Score8.0/10
Zaroob translates as "alley" in Arabic — and the restaurant genuinely captures that alley street food energy in a polished Dubai setting. The décor mimics a Beirut backstreet complete with graffiti, hanging laundry, and tiled floors. The food lives up to the concept: excellent kafta arayes (meat-stuffed flatbread), proper shawarma, and Lebanese street food snacks executed with care. Good for visitors wanting street food flavours in a comfortable setting.
Multiple Locations Lebanese Good for Visitors AED 30–80
Samboosa street food stall Dubai Deira
14
Deira Samboosa Specialist
Deira Souq Area · Samboosa · AED 5–15
Overall Score7.9/10
A small counter near the textile souq in Deira that has developed a fierce local following for its samboosa — fried in fresh oil, filled with spiced minced meat that's actually properly seasoned (not the bland filler you get elsewhere), and served hot with a green chilli dip. AED 2 per piece. People buy 10 at a time. Particularly busy in the evening and absolutely electric during Ramadan when the iftar queues stretch around the block.
Deira Samboosa Ramadan Essential AED 5–15
Ravi restaurant Al Satwa Dubai
15
Ravi Restaurant
Al Satwa · Pakistani & Gulf Mixed · AED 15–50
Overall Score7.8/10
Ravi is technically Pakistani, but its position in the Dubai street food pantheon is undeniable — this is where Gulf street food culture and South Asian cooking excellence intersect most perfectly. The karahi, the kebabs, the dal, and the bread are all benchmark examples of their type, and they've been serving the same loyal customers since 1978. The outdoor tables at Al Satwa are an iconic Dubai dining experience. No reservations, no credit cards, no nonsense.
Est. 1978 Al Satwa Cash Only AED 15–50
